Five Things Friday

Happy Friday! It might be early but I am up getting ready for work and doing a little last minute packing for Orlando so I thought I would give you all a few of my favorite things right now and some you can check out this weekend. Let's go!

1. Big Fish (The Musical and Film)

Last night I went to the Red Mountain Theatre to experience the musical on-stage version of Big Fish. All I can say is you need to check it out if you are a Bham native or live here. I know it is also on Broadway and I believe has traveling shows so there will be ways for everyone in other states to see. Red Mountain offers a really cool way to see popular plays with local talent that does an exceptional job. Tickets are normally around $35 a piece so a good price for date night or hanging with your besties. If you can't make the play, I highly suggest the film version.

2. Fringe Booties

I keep thinking of that Bubba Sparx song (yes, I know it's like 10 years old) "Miss New Booty" whenever I talk about my favorite shoe wear of the fall. I was down with this trend last year and wore them from fall until it got too hot here in late spring. Check one of my favorite sites to find your own pair of fringe booties in your price range! Also, see where I got the pair below here and how I styled them.

3. Fall Decorating

As you may have realized October is my favorite month and I love decorating my house to welcome fall. I just changed up my bar cart style and I will be working on my porch next weekend. Go out and decorate on your own this weekend. It doesn't take much, you can even just go with a simple pumpkin. If you want to go more in depth I highly suggest places like Target and Hobby Lobby which offers lots of variety and great prices.

4. 1989 by Taylor Swift

I'm super pumped about going to Taylor's concert in ATL in a few weeks and you guys might already know how much I really enjoyed this album which came out this time last year. If you haven't heard any of the songs (or have been living under a rock) give this album a listen. Wildest Dreams may be my favorite song. Or maybe I just really like Scott Eastwood in the video.

A polaroid of Swift with shoulder-length blonde hair wearing red lipstick and a long-sleeved sweater with a picture of birds in the sky. Her face is cut off by the frame above the nose and "T. S." and "1989" are written on the white polaroid frame with black marker.

5. Halloween Horror Nights or any other spooky haunted house in your area

I LOVE Halloween. I don't know if it's because my birthday is a few days before the holiday or maybe I just like spooky things. Probably both. I am so pumped to be attending Saturday's Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando! The event is downright scary, I really hope I can keep my eyes open most of the night. If that's a little too much for you I recommend Mickey' Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom if you will be visiting Orlando. Both events are popular and admission is required. If you aren't in Orlando or visiting anytime soon, I recommend two of my hometown houses right here in Bham. Sloss Fright Furnaces and The Atrox Factory. Sloss takes place at the historic downtown furnace that looks super eerie after the sun goes down. Atrox is very, VERY scary like as in the actors jump out at each turn scary. Atrox also has celebrity appearances from older slasher films so be sure to check the schedule for those weekend appearances! No matter where you are there are bound to be some haunted happenings in your city. Check them out!

5 Things Friday

TGIF! We made it to the end and I hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Next week I have several looks and exciting posts I can't wait to share with you all but let's kick off the end of this week with a little Five Things Friday!

1. Jackson and Hyde Crossbody

I discovered this fun collection of cow print inspired bags and clutches a few months ago and while they work for summer, I think they are the perfect accessory for fall. The crossbody can be worn as a clutch for a charming touch at an upscale event or pull out the straps to go dancing at your favorite local bar. I love the size of the crossbody clutch because it has enough for the essentials but not too huge where it looks like you are heading to a rodeo. Check out the wide array of patterns and colors here!

2. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kailing

The follow up to Mindy's delightful first memoir, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) is another sure-fire hit. Seen as a more "real" celebrity, Mindy chronicles her life in Hollywood and faces the struggles that everyone has felt at times including love, success and being lonely by telling her stories in the most endearing way. At the end of both her books, you see Mindy as a friend you might spend a Saturday catching up with. And seeing yourself in similar situations that she tells you about.

3. The Visit

It doesn't feel like it's been 15 years since we infamously heard the phrase "I see dead people'" from the mega-hit, ultimate twisty The Sixth Sense. In that time director M. Night Shyamalan has gone from Oscar nominee to films that lack that extra scare (or plot in some cases). He may have gotten back on track with The Visit. M. Night seems to have finally returned to his classic spooky story telling and of course, the twist. Get some pre-Halloween action at the theatres this weekend and see for yourself!

4. Piko Tops and Dresses

I can not get enough of these comfy tops and dresses! The feel like pj's and are that super-soft tee material that you just want to wear everyday. The come in every color that you can think of including hot fall hues such as olive, nude, charcoal and teal. Extremely flattering and can easily be dressed up or down. How can you not love this brand!?

5. Avondale Brewing Co.

My local pick of the week is the Avondale Brewing Co. There are so many breweries to choose from but Avondale remains a constant favorite. I love the official mascot Miss Fancy, the famed elephant who was the prize attraction at nearby Avondale Park, many, many years ago. Her presence and logo are everywhere and there is even a brew named after her (warning it is strong).  You can find a list of all the brews here. I'm not much of a drinker but I enjoy Avondale on a sunny afternoon/crisp night in autumn. If you are getting ready for your tailgate or just to watch the games at home, Avondale brews are sold in numerous areas outside the brewery so find them at location near you!

Hope you enjoyed my five things today! Have a fab weekend and check back here Monday for a new fashion post!

Happy Weekend!

5 Things Friday

Happy Friday y'all! Another week has come and gone and time for the weekend! I thought I would do a little "five things Friday" on the blog today. Also, I can not believe I have over 3,000 views on my blog! THANK YOU!!! When I started this adventure not too long ago I was just hoping that 20 people would read a post but the response has been wonderful! I'm going to put together a giveaway soon so be on the look out! In the meantime, here are my 5 things:

1. Brantley Cecilia NOLA Accessories

Another gem I found via Instagram. This New Orleans based jewelry designer has some of the most unique pieces and good prices. I love having jewelry pieces that not everyone has or that looks like every single department store selection so I try and seek out new boutiques and designers. There were several pieces I wanted for my collection but I settled on this light pink beaded arrowhead and the gold shark tooth. The mailman must think I'm cray because he delivers so frequently to my house. What can I say? I'm an online shopping addict.

2. Designer Consignment Stores

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a blogger event (shout out to Bham Bloggers) at a local designer consignment store. Places like this are fabulous on finding designer treasures. My best piece is probably a David Yurman ring (one of the large ones) I got years ago. It even came with the certification that it was legit and I wear that ring ALL the time and always get compliments. Be expecting a full recap of the event and consignment tips next week!

3. Trainwreck

I get that comedian Amy Schumer can be a little on the raunchy side but I find her hilarious most of the time. I am pumped to finally see Trainwreck tonight! I feel like it has been forever since I've been to the movies (ok, like two weeks) but I love me a movie night! Grab your date or pals and head out to see this one!

4. Clueless Anniversary

As if! I know it's hard to believe that this summer marks the 20th anniversary...yes 20 years ago the instant classic Clueless came out. The film loosely based on the Jane Austen novel Emma is one of the most loved, quotable, you just have to watch it movies of all time. I saw this super fun Totally Cher Mug from the always adorable site Birthday Girl. Be a "total Betty" in style while you watch the film!

5. Go Set a Watchman

I'll admit I'm skeptical but the English major in me has to read this follow up to Harper Lee's masterpiece To Kill a Mockingbird. I have heard mixed reviews about the new novel and no doubt it can't hold a candle to the original but I picked up my copy today and hope to be finished with it in a few days (if I can find the time to actually sit and read!) and will post my thoughts. Excited to see what's in store and see if Lee can recapture the riveting storytelling of her past work. Let me know if you have read it already!

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday and weekend!

P.S. it's also National Tequila Day....have some fun and be safe!

XOXO,
